JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 50 MB
The tool uses an AI model (42.3 MB). It is downloaded the first time you use the tool; your browser usually keeps it for later visits.
How to use
- Drag a photo into the box, choose it, or paste it.
- Wait while the background is removed. The first time, the AI model is downloaded first.
- Compare before and after, then download the PNG.
Tips
A clear subject works best
The result is best when the person, pet or object stands out clearly. Busy backgrounds and colors close to the subject make the edges harder.
Check hair and thin parts
Move the before/after divider over hair, fur and thin parts such as glasses or plant stems. These are the hardest places for the model.
The first photo takes longer
The AI model is downloaded the first time. After that your browser usually keeps it, and the next photos start right away.
Keep the PNG
The result is a PNG with a transparent background. JPG has no transparency, so converting to JPG fills the background with a color; WebP keeps it.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The background is removed in your browser, on your own device, by an AI model that runs there. Only the model itself is downloaded, the first time you use the tool.
Why does it take a while?
The AI model runs on your device's processor. On a computer it usually takes several seconds per photo, on a phone longer. The first time, the model download comes on top.
Why are some edges not perfect?
The model decides for every pixel whether it belongs to the subject. Fine hair, fur, glass and colors close to the background are hard. There is no brush to fix such spots by hand yet.
Can I put a new background behind the subject?
Not on this page yet. The PNG has a transparent background, so you can place it on any color or picture in another program.
Which AI model is used?
ORMBG (schirrmacher/ormbg on Hugging Face), under the Apache 2.0 license. It was made smaller for the web; the license and the changes are listed in the NOTICE.txt file served with the model.
Is there a size limit?
Files can be up to 50 MB. Images up to 100 megapixels work on a computer, and up to 16.7 on phones and tablets, because mobile browsers have less memory for images.
